I grew up between my father and my older sister, Charlotte. Yet, a gulf always separated us. She lived her life, free and carefree, while I remained faithfully by our father’s side. Until the day everything changed.
The revelation of the will
Two weeks after the funeral, we met at the notary’s office for the reading of our father’s last will and testament. I thought he would divide the house between the two of us. But no: he bequeathed it entirely to Charlotte. I only received an old watch. Holding it in my hands, I almost cried. It wasn’t a valuable object, but it was a piece of him.
Eviction without warning
For a few days, we lived under the same roof. Then, one evening, when I came home from work, I was greeted by a chilling announcement from Charlotte: “That’s it, our paths diverge here. The secret my father had hidden
